‘Tomb Raider’ Sequel Lands a New Director & Writer: Misha Green

In 2018, Alicia Vikander stepped into the big shoes of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in a new movie adaptation of “Tomb Raider“, which focuses on the reboot story of heroine Lara Croft. The movie was extremely successful and pleased both critics and fans. It was therefore almost certain that a sequel would follow. First, it was announced in early 2019 that MGM and Warner Bros have hired Amy Jump to write the script for the Tomb Raider movie sequel. Now, it was revealed that ‘Lovecraft Country’ showrunner Misha Green has been hired as director and writer for the Tomb Raider movie sequel. In addition, this marks the first time a woman has directed a live-action Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider movie star Alicia Vikander told EW that the plan was to start filming in 2020, which was not possible due to the severe Covid situation. The studio had even marked a theatrical release date in its in-house release schedule, and according to that, “Tomb Raider 2” was scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2021. It is still unclear when filming will actually begin. Especially since according to rumors, Alicia Vikander is currently expecting her first child with her husband Michael Fassbender.
