Games company Embracer Group is buying parts of publisher Square Enix: Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal are soon to be part of the Swedish publisher, which has made massive acquisitions in recent years. The purchase has its price: the Embracer Group is expected to pay a hefty $300 million for the deal.
The acquisition is expected to be completed between July and September 2022, Embracer stated in a press release. Much more interesting, however, is that Embracer is gaining not only the studios, but also the rights to numerous well-known brands. This includes “Tomb Raider” in particular.
That another Tomb Raider game is already in the works was announced by Crystal Dynamics earlier this year. Fans were also told that a “unified” version of Lara Croft was now planned. We’ll have to wait and see what Embracer will do with Tomb Raider and its future.
